I do have all the CDs but the main reason I chose to download from origin was so that I wouldn't have to use a disc without fiddling around with cracks (which I can't find any of for mac).The Sims 3 downloaded from the Steam Store shouldn't need a patch (at least not before you attempt to access ) this download is locally registered - in Windows Registry - so should run just fine without registering with EA / Origin / / / etc.
I'd really appreciate some help with this, as I am reluctant to delete and reinstall ALL my sims 3 games as that would mean redownloading them which would take days, and to be fair, I don't have internet data to do that right now. I tried a factory reset of my game (by renaming the Sims 3 folder in my documents and letting the launcher create a new one) and tried to install the Sims3Packs by placing them into the new Downloads folder but this time, upon installing them, the installer crashes, and displays an error message: 'there was an error installing content' (for clarification, this error message does not show up when installing content using the original Sims 3 folder). I've tried deleting (and putting back) all my DCCache files, but the same thing happened. I've been looking around on the EA forums and TS3 forums for ages, but none of the solutions offered have worked. When I play, all the custom content that I had already installed shows up in game like normal. If I move the Sims3Pack file into Documents/Electronic Arts/Sims 3/Downloads, it shows up in the downloads tab in the Launcher, but when I try to install it, the installation splash image comes up, but then quickly goes away, and in Finder it shows up as 'not responding' and I have to force quit. Previously, I used to be able to double click a Sims3Pack file and it would open the launcher and install, no problem, but now, this just opens the launcher, and nothing happens, it doesn't show up in the downloads tab either. package files) without any issues for ages, however now I can no longer install custom content via the Sims 3 Launcher.
